PTHS Peers in Action recording a public service announcement to promote eliminating the "R-word."

Pontiac Township High School's "Peers in Action" club recorded a public service announcement on Monday for a cause they believe in.

According to the sponsoring teacher Laura Sengpiel, the Special Olympics is sponsoring a movement to eliminate the "R-word."

The students recorded a video that asks people to not call individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities "retarded."

The public service announcement plays today and tomorrow at the high school.  An online version is also available.

Students at PTHS are asked to pledge they will not use the "R-word," by signing a pledge with Special Olympics.

The video was created in cooperation with McCoy Studios and OneOnlineCommunity.
